Windows 11 will ultimately become readily available for non-insider devices tomorrow, which is clearly good news for everybody, although the updated system requirements have caused a great deal of frustration in the existing Windows 10 userbase given few people can update their devices.

However, within the last couple weeks, I've seen various ways of installing Windows 11 on unsupported devices making the headlines, and without a doubt, lots of people will give them a go because they want to get the modern experience on their own computers too.

But on the other hand, Microsoft warns that force-installing Windows 11 on a device that's not officially supported comes with an increased probability of bugs, especially because no new drivers are freed.

"From Windows Insider machines, those that did not satisfy the minimum system requirements had 52% more kernel mode crashes (blue screens) than those that did meet the requirements. Machines that met the requirements provided a 99.8% crash-free experience that's effectively managed by OEMs and IHVs through modern driver update management. Additionally, on unsupported hardware app hangs are 17% more likely and for first-party apps we see 43% more crashes," Microsoft says.

Windows 10 still a good OS

Leaving aside Microsoft's very own recommendations, installing Windows 11 on an unsupported device is too much of an inconvenience to begin with.

Windows 10 is really a perfectly fine operating system, and at this time, it's even faster, more polished and reliable than Windows 11 to begin with, so there's no urgency in moving towards the latest version unless you really want to see what's new.

Windows 10 will still be supported according to the original schedule, so updates is going to be shipped regularly until 2025.

Furthermore, a brand new feature update is projected to visit live this season as well, though Microsoft hasn't provided any specifics as to whether any such big updates are projected to still go live in 2022 and beyond.

Windows 11 is projected to visit live in a few days, however the operating system has caught the attention of an important share of the userbase.

Consequently, many of the users available installed the Windows 11 preview builds released included in the Windows Insider program, so at this time, the brand new operating-system has already been running on 1.3 percent from the PCs with access to the Microsoft Store.

This really is based on AdDuplex, that also says Windows 10 version 21H1 is currently the most popular Windows 10 release with a share of 38.1 percent, accompanied by version 20H2 with 36.1 percent.

Not everybody eligible for the disposable Windows 11 upgrade

While the launch of Windows 11 next week is among the most anticipated releases of the season, worthwhile to learn isn't that all computers running Windows 10 will be entitled to the upgrade to the new OS.

This is because Microsoft has updated the machine requirements for that operating system, and the company strongly recommends against installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware.

And it's all because of the increased probability of crashes, as data collected from the Windows Insider program implies that old computers are prone to various problems on Windows 11.

"From Windows Insider machines, the ones that did not satisfy the minimum system requirements had 52% more kernel mode crashes (blue screens) than those that did qualify. Machines that met what's needed provided a 99.8% crash-free experience that is effectively managed by OEMs and IHVs through modern driver update management. Additionally, on unsupported hardware app hangs are 17% much more likely as well as for first-party apps we have seen 43% more crashes," Microsoft explained.

Windows 10, however, will still be supported until 2025 based on the original update policy for the operating-system, with a new feature update due later this season too.

Microsoft is working night and day on finalizing Windows 11, and based on recent information, the operating-system is projected to be signed off next month.

Quite simply, Microsoft will pick a final build for Windows 11 when September, using the focus to then be exclusively on refinements and improvements supposed to polish the general experience in front of the grand debut planned for October.

And given Windows 11 RTM thus remains just around the corner, everyone is wondering whether Microsoft still has lots of time to bring all the big features it already announced to testers as part of the Windows Insider program and then further polish these to get everything ready for that launch.

One of these features is support for Android apps, which is still missing from Insider builds and that the company announced with much fanfare captured.

Windows 11 arriving October

Microsoft itself hasn't said a single thing concerning the chances to get support for Android apps in Windows 11, but considering that time is running out and thorough tests are required, we could end up getting the operating system without this feature, with the company to then add it at a later time.

The software giant, however, promised to talk about more details "in the approaching months."

"We are bringing Android apps to Windows for the first time. Starting later this season, people will be able to discover Android apps in the Microsoft Store and download them with the Amazon Appstore - imagine recording and posting a video from TikTok or using Khan Academy Kids for virtual learning right from your computer. We'll have more to share relating to this experience of the coming months. Good quality for this partnership with Amazon and Intel utilizing their Intel Bridge technology," Microsoft said.

It remains seen if Android apps make their method to Windows 11, but for now, there's a high probability this big feature will miss in the OS when it launches in October.
